Cadillac just launched the 2015 Escalade a few months ago and already today the brand announced some upgrades for the whole line, a higher entry-level price and a new top-of-line model due in the fourth quarter called the Platinum.
CADILAC also is giving the whole Escalade line, redesigned for 2015, some new features that will help it meet the rising ante for competing in the luxury SUV arena. They also will add $1275 to Escalade's starting price, bringing it to $73,965 with shipping.
All the 'Slades now will get 4G LTE connectivity with WiFi hotspot, a fuel-efficient 8-speed transmission and a so-called "Surround View" 360-degree camera system. The standard power tailgate with hands-free opening now will have hands-free closing, too. And four-wheel drive models will get a standard 2-speed transfer case.
For those of you who find the regular Escalade truck-based SUV too understated, the answer may be the Platinum, which will load up more luxe touches.
Starting at $90,270 with shipping, the Platinum will roll on 22-inch rims and have its own chrome accents and grille.
But the bulk of the upgrades are inside. There'll be a choice of two interior design themes with their own wood trim. First- and second-row seats will have Nappa semi-aniline leather and the dash, upper door panels and console will be leather wrapped. That console also has a cooler compartment to chill your refreshments.
The front seated will be heated and cooled, have massage for the driver and offer a mind-numbing 18 ways of power adjustment. And for passenger entertainment, there will be a pair of 7-inch LCD screens in the front head rests and a 9-inch screen overhead (two overhead in the stretch long-wheelbase version).
