WATCH:DENZEL WASHINGTON'S ' EQUALIZER' HIT TOP SPOT

The film from Sony Corp's Columbia Pictures is expected to be the top film at the North American box office this weekend, with ticket sales of $35 million, according to Boxoffice.com.

"The Equalizer," based on the 1980s television series of the same name, depicts a man with an innate sense of justice who comes to the rescue of people in dire straits with no one to turn to.

DENZEL WASHINGTON SET TO LAUNCH HIS MOVIE "EQUALIZER"

Denzel will be promoting "The Equalizer" on a worldwide tour. In this film, Denzel plays the role of Robert McCall, is a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri, he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. 

As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall's desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer. 

The "Equalizer" is set to be released on September 26th.
